On Sunday 17th August, I met with a huge bunch of fellow natural hair bloggers at Brixton Town Hall for the Sistahub Social media event. The event was hosted by the lovely @NaturalHairDaily girls, Elle and Neecie, who successfully brought us all together for one of the most successful blogger meets yet! Have a read of my diary of the day, and as always, enjoy some of the many pictures I took while in the presence of so many beautiful fros!
11.30am: After dramatically running to my local train station, panting and spluttering at the train station entrance as I saw the train to Walthamstow pull away, I quickly jumped in a cab to Walthamstow Central Station. After a short ride on the Victoria line, I hopped off at Tottenham Hale and was greeted by the lovely Ginny (@FroGirlGinny) who was looking flawless as always.
12.00pm: After arriving in Brixton we had a quick browse around Topshop and Morleys – the local department store – before walking down to Brixton Town Hall, the venue for the SistaHub event.
1.00pm: We finally arrived and were greeted by the gorgeous Simone (@Simbafarian) wearing her trademark African prints. As we walked in, we were taken through to the bloggers corner, but not before Ginny and I got a few snaps in front of the SistaHub board (see below).
1.05pm: At the bloggers corner we were greeted by the stunning Elle of @Naturalhairdaily, who gave us a run down of what was going to happen throughout the day. We were also given our name badges, as well as the tickets for the raffle!
1.15pm: After sitting down for a chat and helping ourselves to the delicious fruit skewers in the blogger’s corner, Ginny and I took a walk around the hall to see what the independent stands had on offer. See below just a handful of the stands and merchandise that was on sale!
1.45pm: After being tempted by the colourful African prints, organic natural hair products and beautifully crafted jewellery, we returned to the blogger’s corner, where we met more of the natural hair beauties that had arrived. As Ginny caught up with Neecie (see below) I tucked into yet more fruit… Davina never says no to free food!
2.00pm: Simone, Ginny and I headed over to the Mane Divas table, where we joined a workshop looking at the various natural ingredients we could use to treat our curls. The lovely Mane Divas ladies talked us through the different porosities of the hair, and how knowing this will help us each with our natural hair routine. I will definitely be using the tips I learnt in the future!
2.30pm: After reluctantly being torn away from the Mane Divas table, we rejoined the luscicous ladies in the blogger’s circle, and of course took more piccies!3.00pm: The lovely @Naturalhairdaily ladies took the floor and explained to us that the importance of today was to bring us all together and gain more support for black business. Awww!! We were then each asked to stand to introduce ourselves, before being split into two groups to discuss why people don’t buy from black businesses. Some of the responses were that the products are often expensive, that the market is over-saturated with black natural hair products now and that it is often easier to buy cheaper brands. However, we concluded our discussion by agreeing that it is important that we support each other, whether on each other’s blogs or in business, and through doing so we will make the natural hair community stronger.
3.30pm: By this point, I was on the verge of collapsing (my stomach doesn’t play) so as soon as the chatting ended I was on the search for some food. The caribbean food served at the event certainly hit the spot!
4.00pm: After regaining focus on socialising rather than eating, I rejoined the other bloggers and started snapping!
5.00pm: At the end of the day the raffle was called and we each received a gift. I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful necklace from Chi22london, which I will be sure to be taking selfies with very very soon.
5.30pm: After lots of hugs and the last of the photos were taken, Simone and I headed off to Brixton station and I started my journey home.
I’d just like to say a massive thank you to the Natural hair daily ladies for bringing us all together and organising such a fantastic event. It was lovely meeting everyone and we need to do it again soon. I will be sure to share when the next big meet is as I would love to meet all of my followers!
With love from London,
